  • 0 ONC Authorized Testing and Certification Bodies

    Yesterday, the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) announced two organizations that will be the authorized testing and certification bodies.  These bodies will determine if electronic health record (EHR) solutions have the specific capabilities to meet the meaningful use objectives.  This helps eligible professionals, hospitals and CAHs determine the most suitable EHR solution to meet meaningful use criteria and receive financial reimbursements.

    The certification bodies are:
    Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT)
    Drummond Group

  • 1 athenaHealth’s Electronic Health Record Stand-Alone Option

    For years, athenaHealth required a physician to purchase its electronic health record (EHR) in conjunction with its billing software, athenaCollector. Today, athenaHealth announced that they will be offering the EHR, athenaClinicals available individually. This means that a physician who only wants to purchase the EHR now has the ability to do so.

    The EHR will include all of the core EHR functionality. There will be some adjustments made to the EHR that will only be available when purchasing the integrated suite.

  • 0 HITECH First Payment May 2011

    Aug 19, 2010. Today.

    In case you are not familiar with the HITECH Act, congress passed it as part of the larger ARRA stimulus legislation early in 2009. HITECH will reimburse eligible providers (EPs) for implementing a certified EHR system and using in a “meaningful” way. HITECH will reimburse EPs up to $44,000 under Medicare and up to $64,000 under Medicaid. However, state participation is voluntary, so check with your state government if you are interested in the Medicaid program.
