The gloEMR version 5.0 from gloStream – a provider of electronic medical record (EMR) and practice management (PM) software for physicians and medical facilities – has received CCHIT certification by meeting 100% of the updated 2009 Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) criteria. The product has been announced as CCHIT Certified 08 Ambulatory EHR additionally certified for Cardiovascular Medicine and Child Health.

The CCHIT certification criteria were updated in the second quarter of this year to include 19 new parameters to ensure a higher degree of functionality, interoperability, and security in electronic health record (EHR) systems. A stamp of approval from CCHIT is an indication that the EHR product meets basic and crucial requirements for medical practices – such as:  additional electronic prescribing features, better medication dosing, and the use of standard formats while sharing basic patient information and storing laboratory results.

According to Mark Leavitt, M.D., Ph.D., chair, CCHIT, “Two key new areas of interoperability are required to achieve 08 certification. First, ambulatory EHRs must be capable of advanced electronic prescribing  functions so physicians can qualify for bonuses under Medicare’s new incentive program. Second, EHRs must be able to send and receive an electronic patient summary. These and other new criteria will ensure that certified health IT products will  help improve quality, safety and efficiency while protecting the privacy of health information.”

Headquartered in Michigan, gloStream is the only provider of medical software solutions built on the Microsoft platform. The company provides voice-enabled Microsoft Office-embedded EMR and PM solutions through a network of technology partners across U.S. “We’re thrilled to have achieved certification each year that CCHIT has been in existence and we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards for product functionality, interoperability and security,” said Mike Sappington, gloStream’s CEO.  “As the only Microsoft Office-embedded electronic health record and practice management solution supported by a network of local technology partners, gloStream is the best choice for doctors seeking a flexible and easy-to-use system that they can customize to the way they practice medicine.”
