This just reminds me we need to think about this whole certification process a bit more. I see this quite often, when our IT staff tries to help us get installations done in time to meet go lives. It takes a while to train a pure IT professional to help with EHR installations.

It's too bad that there is so much misinformation in this blog entry. I'll touch on just a few of the points.

1. Medicare provides $44,000 over 5 years. Not $40,000. Subsequently Medicaid pays $63,750 over 6 years, but you cannot get both Medicare and Medicaid payments.
2. The first payment is up to $18,000 not $15,000 if you adopt in 2011 or 2012. If you don't adopt until 2013 your first payment will be reduced to $15,000 and the total you can receive is lowered to $35k. If you wait to adopt in 2012 your total is lowered to $42k.
3. No sources for the "experts" in the article are given.
4. As I have been aggressively shopping for an EHR system I have yet to find a single CCHIT certified EHR supplier that has a backlog at all.
5. Any EHR supplier that does not foresee the increase in demand for their product and increases staff preemptively will be left in the dust. That is not the fault of nor will the doctor be punished for their misguidance. It appears that the Author is making excuses for his own EHR not being CCHIT certified or, I presume, he not being able to keep up with demand.
