Over the past few months we’ve been hearing about physicians resisting change. More specifically, they are not ready to purchase and implement an electronic health record (EHR) system.
After speaking with several of physicians as well as EHR vendors, we’ve learned that right now is a learning period for physicians. They simply are not ready to purchase an EHR until everything is clarified by the government.
However, numbers seem to state otherwise.
Several EHR vendors have NOT been affected by the Economic Stimulus and in fact, their companies have seen a significant increase in sales.
I guess it really depends on the EHR vendor that you speak with. As a physician ‘learning’ about the EHR Industry- make sure to read press releases concerning the growth of the EHR companies.

I’m hearing everything from:
We’re not making any sales and going out of business
to
Best month we’ve ever had.
But, I do think that everyone agrees that come 2010 – EHRs will be very busy. Or should I say Very Very busy
.

Where did you get the data that they’re having increased sales? Reminds me of the anecdote that says that if you ask EMR vendors how many doctors use their software and added them all together, then the total number of doctors would be twice the actual number of doctors out there.
You also have to be careful with bottom line numbers for the large EHR vendors. Huge cuts in staff and other non-EHR business can heavily influence the bottom line number even if their EHR business is down.
