PDA

PDA stands for personal digital assistant, that is a phone/fax, internet and has networking features all in a small handheld device. Typical PDAs have the functionality of: a cell phone, fax, web browser and personal organizer. PDAs today are available as a stylus (handwriting recognition) or keyboard. They also have voice recognition capabilities.

In addition to PDAs there are now iPhones. Similar to the PDA; however, the main difference is that everything is touch screen, and it is an apple product. Many EHR companies are aware of the popularity of this phone, therefore, they are making iPhone applications for their EHR software. That way, physicians are able to easily access information located within their EHR.

As a physician always on the go, it is important to see if the EHRs are compatible with PDAs and iPhones.
