Wireless Access Point

A wireless access point (WAP) is a device that enables wireless devices to connect to a wireless network using WiFi, Bluetooth or related standards. The WAP connects to a wired network and then transmits the data between the wireless devices and network. The WAP’s function is to be the gateway between for users to access the wireless network.

A wireless access point and a router are NOT the same thing. You need to analyze your current office workflow to determine what is best for you. If you currently have a router, you may not need a second one, and you can use a WAP.

Discuss with your EHR vendor what is suggested, or seek a consultant first to determine what the best solution is for your practice.
