So, I guess the quintessential question, is where are we going to find 212,000 people who have an adequate background to implement a national health IT initiative as is being described and potentially funded to the tune of $20 billion.

There have been previous attempts to fund training of experts in this field, but to date they have failed to pass the house and senate.

The concept of ‘Train the Trainer’ is likely to become quite important in the coming years assuming that the HIT initiative is funded.

Along with alternative energy, it would certainly appear as if HIT is a proper direction of study for the future.

I agree with the importance of train the trainer. There are lots of so-called experts in EHR now. Many people, myself included, have worked on more than one software solution. It’s really time for the Healthcare IT world to lead this charge. We have the education base to help set the standards for a shared digital record.
