At HIMSS10, Richard Yonis, Executive Producer for EHRtv, had the pleasure of speaking with Rohit Nayak, Vice President of Physician Technology Solutions at MedPlus, the healthcare information technology subsidiary of Quest Diagnostics.  Specifically, they had the opportunity to discuss how MedPlus’ unique market approach is bringing tremendous success to the company. Rohit shared that much of this success is attributed to MedPlus’ in-depth understanding of medical providers’ needs as digitization of electronic health data becomes more prevalent.

MedPlus is able to provide unique physician technology solutions, such as lab results and prescription writing with the ability to add on modules at the providers’ requests. This customization has allowed MedPlus to fulfill providers’ needs today, while laying the ground work for tomorrow. To this end, the Care360 product has been expanded to include robust EHR functionality. The EHR documentation is easy and flexible, with a built-in knowledge base that can accommodate most primary care, internal medicine, and pediatric providers. 

The flexibility of Care360 allows providers to keep their existing PM system, and thru HL7 interface, work with most any other PM system on the market today. Additionally, Care360 will provide integration for voice recognition, such as Dragon speech to text. According to Rohit, MedPlus has some exciting new products on the horizon, such as an interoperable rules-based engine for an intelligent patient portal. By leveraging the large Quest Diagnostics client base, MedPlus has been able to help providers today while preparing them for the digital demands of tomorrow.
