San Diego Medical Group Goes Live With EHR/PM Solution

Apr 20, 2009. Implementation.

San Diego’s Sharp Community Medical Group joins the growing list of facilities nationwide to “Go Live” with an integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Practice Management (PM) solution.

Called SCMG CONNECT, the EHR/PM system has been designed to automate and connect clinical and administrative processes for all SCMG physicians. The EHR system allows physicians to instantly access a single medical record for each patient containing all of the information and records from all doctors within SCMG he or she has been seeing. The system provides electronic prescribing, which means SCMG physicians will qualify for Medicare’s e-prescribing incentives.

According to the Medical Group, SCMG Connect also meets the “meaningful use” guidelines set forth in the Health Information Technology (HIT) provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which should provide Sharp with up to $44,000 per physician for use of an EHR beginning in 2011.

In a press release statement, John Jenrette, MD, SCMG’s CEO said, “We are extremely pleased and excited that the physicians of SCMG have a system that is truly state-of-the art, and that will improve patient care and enable physicians to be more efficient in the practice of medicine.”

It should be a nice thing if patient can have access to their medical record in doctor’s EMR as well.

Today when patient do move their case from one doctor to the other, bring their info with them is difficult often due to human factor (such as a unwilling doc charge unreasonable fee). This is one step forward.
