0 Allscripts Launches ‘App Store’ and Referral Network to Accelerate Exchange of Ideas and Information Among Healthcare Stakeholders
Feb 23, 2011. Press Releases.ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — From the floor of the HIMSS11 Conference & Exhibition, Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) today announced the Application Store & Exchange™ (ASX) and the Allscripts Referral Network™ (ARN), two innovations to help hospitals and physician groups share ideas and information to improve care coordination, both inside and outside their organizations.
(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20100901/CG58147LOGO)
ASX enables Allscripts clients, partners and other organizations to add to the company’s open product platform, while ARN makes it easy to deliver seamless electronic patient referrals within the Allscripts client base of 180,000 physicians, 1,500 hospitals and 10,000 post acute care organizations – the largest connected network in healthcare.
“We believe these two simple innovations, paired with our open architecture, can help to transform healthcare,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts. “The Application Store & Exchange works like the Apple App Store to let everyone contribute to making healthcare better, while the Allscripts Referral Network enables our clients to create an electronic workflow with their referring partners, improving care coordination and efficiency. If you’re on ARN, you will be connected to a third of the healthcare providers in the United States.”
The Allscripts Application Store & Exchange
The Allscripts Application Store & Exchange is an online marketplace accessible by all of Allscripts hospital and physician clients and partners, allowing them to create, add, and connect to third-party applications. The Application Store & Exchange, which goes live today, enables Allscripts clients to access a wide range of Allscripts-built and third-party applications developed by registered, approved partners and clients, at lower cost and faster than otherwise possible.
“We’ve clearly seen this work in other industries and the time is now for healthcare to benefit from the same kind of innovation and collaboration,” said Connie Suozzo, Vice President of Product Development Operations for Allscripts. “The smartest physicians, nurses and other caregivers in the world use our software and we want their ideas to become an integral part of the solution.”
The Application Store & Exchange provides information and links on technologies developed by registered participants in the Allscripts Developer Program. Featured applications leverage the Helios by Allscripts™ open architecture platform to natively integrate with Allscripts clinical, revenue cycle and performance management solutions. The first applications to be featured on the Application Store & Exchange include:
- HCS Medication Reconciliation, a complete solution to address one of the most complex processes confronting hospitals today. Developed for Allscripts clients by HealthCare System, Inc., the solution queries multiple national data sources including pharmacy benefit managers, insurance companies, and retail pharmacies to provide clinicians with a record of the medications a patient has filled within the last 12 months.
- Positive ID Director for Allscripts, a fingerprint authentication system from BIO-key International, that enables any authorized user to securely access any module of the Sunrise Enterprise™ suite of acute care solutions using a single swipe or press of their finger. The solution works on virtually any sensor, whether on mobile devices, tablets, or shared workstations, and also meets the new DEA ePrescribing authentication requirements.
- NaviCare® WatchChild® Basic SCM Integration Application from Hill-Rom is an innovative labor-and-delivery solution that integrates Sunrise Clinical Manager™ with NaviCare WatchChild, an OB data management bedside solution for hospital labor and delivery units. The solution provides caregivers with an up-to-the-minute clinical summary of the hospital’s labor and delivery patients from within Sunrise Clinical Manager.
- Allscripts Outcomes Solution Sets, providing client-proven best practice recommendations for achieving improved patient safety, health outcomes and performance. The tool sets guide implementation, configuration and utilization of Allscripts software products toward the achievement, measurement and standardized reporting of improved outcomes.
Allscripts will continuously add applications, integration options and other tools to the Application Store & Exchange to help clients access new innovations. Today, over 100 third parties are in active discussions for building applications that will integrate with the Sunrise and Enterprise EHR applications, leveraging the power of the entire healthcare community.
The Allscripts Referral Network
A breakthrough in health information exchange, the new Allscripts Referral Network enables physicians to easily send, receive and track round-trip patient referrals to physicians and post-acute providers, as well as collaborate via secure messages throughout the referral process. Available at no additional charge to users of any ARRA-certified Allscripts Electronic Health Record (EHR), as well as users of Allscripts ePrescribe™, the service enhances care coordination, promotes quality of care, and reduces administrative time and hassle associated with referral management, one of the most time consuming physician tasks.
The average primary care physician group spends approximately $1,000 per physician per month in staff time managing patient referrals, according to industry estimates. Electronic referrals in the Allscripts Referral Network reduce staff expense and enable caregivers to have the right information at the right time to provide appropriate care. The Allscripts Referral Network also makes practices easy to do business with, driving incremental referral revenue.
“Sending and tracking paper referrals back and forth between our multi-specialty physicians and outside referring partners is time-consuming but it’s also a critical element of care coordination,” said Praveen Toteja, Chief Information Officer of George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, the 385-physician faculty practice of the George Washington University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. ”The Allscripts Referral Network makes the whole process easy, intuitive, fast and much more efficient. Best of all, patient referrals are fully integrated within the EHR so our physicians and support staff can handle referrals using the process they’re accustomed to, and we don’t have to ask them to learn yet another workflow.”
The Allscripts Referral Network connects physicians who utilize an Allscripts EHR, as well as the nearly 110,000 homecare, hospice, skilled nursing and other post-acute providers who receive referrals through the Allscripts Referral Management solution. Physician practices that currently lack an EHR can participate in the service via their use of the free Allscripts ePrescribe solution, or as a sponsored user in a group or community that purchases referrals with ePrescribe. In addition, the Allscripts Referral Network offers an optional e-fax service that seamlessly faxes referrals to users who lack connectivity, while Allscripts users enjoy the same electronic workflow.
“Our multi-specialty physicians have been asking for an easy way to accept electronic referrals that synchronize the patient’s information with their EHR workflow, and two-way tracking to reduce the time their staff spends managing referrals,” said Steven Adkins, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer of Holston Medical Group (HMG) in Kingsport, Tenn. ”The Allscripts Referral Network is a welcome advance that marks a clear win for our practice.”
HMG, a pioneer in the design and implementation of Electronic Health Records, introduced its first EHR in 1995. Today, the practice’s 150 physicians are virtually paper-free.
“Allscripts Referral Network is one of the tools that positions Allscripts as the ‘Facebook of Healthcare’, connecting 180,000 physicians, 1,500 hospitals and 10,000 post acute care facilities and doing it for free,” said Mr. Tullman. “It doesn’t require any additional training and comes embedded in every new ARRA-Certified Allscripts EHR. We think this will help begin to change the connectivity game in healthcare. The new question will be ‘are you connected?’”
Allscripts also is actively participating in the Direct Project, a secure Internet-based approach for direct transport of structured and unstructured health information being led by Arien Malec and Doug Fridsma in the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s (ONC) Office of Standards and Interoperability. On Feb. 2, Mr. Tullman joined Aneesh Chopra, the White House Chief Technology Officer, Dr. David Blumenthal, National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, and Farzad Mostashari, MD, Deputy National Coordinator for ONC, in a press conference announcing pilot demonstrations of the Direct Project, including at Allscripts client Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.
The Direct Project complements the deep workflow integration of the Allscripts Referral Network, allowing ARN participants to reach Direct Project-enabled providers across the country.

1 GE Healthcare Announces New Solutions to Support EMR Meaningful Use
Feb 21, 2011. Press Releases.ORLANDO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–At the annual meeting of the Health Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS) in Orlando this week, GE Healthcare announced two new Electronic Medical Record (EMR) solutions that have been certified for meaningful use. Centricity* Practice Solution 10 and Centricity Patient Online 12 are enhancements to existing EMR solutions from GE Healthcare that will help customers achieve Meaningful Use and go beyond, meeting the needs of clinicians and patients with elegant design, intuitive workflows and easy-to-use features.
“2011 will be a critical year for adopting meaningful use and GE Healthcare continues to lead the way by delivering solutions that can help healthcare providers easily and quickly achieve their goals”
“2011 will be a critical year for adopting meaningful use and GE Healthcare continues to lead the way by delivering solutions that can help healthcare providers easily and quickly achieve their goals,” said Jim Corrigan, Vice President and General Manager of GE Healthcare IT. “Our broad solution portfolio offers healthcare providers the tools they need to lower costs and gain better control of the information in their practices – whether they are working a small primary care practice or a large academic hospital or something in between.”
Centricity Practice Solution 10
Centricity Practice Solution 10 is the evolution of GE Healthcare’s fully integrated EMR and practice management system for physician practices. Centricity Practice Solution 10 now has embedded reports that providers can use to track their progress toward becoming “meaningful users.” This new version has already attained 2011/2012 Meaningful Use Stage I certification as a complete EHR from CCHIT®**. Leveraging the quality improvement and reporting capabilities that have long been part of GE Healthcare’s Medical Quality Improvement Consortium (MQIC), Centricity Practice Solution 10 customers will continue to be at the forefront of quality benchmarking through access to powerful and convenient reporting for Meaningful Use, PQRI, NCQA and other incentive-driven reporting initiatives. Centricity Practice Solution customers will now able to track the clinical quality measures for Meaningful Use, and also have improved data to drive quality care for their patients.
Centricity Practice Solution 10 features a welcoming design and easy navigation based on extensive research with EMR users. Robust without being overwhelming, each screen provides just the right amount of information, clearly demarcated so busy doctors can focus on just the patient data that’s needed at each moment – which can improve real, ongoing adoption of digital medical records. The solution is currently being implemented by several early-adopter customers. GE Healthcare expects the product to be generally-available in the second calendar quarter of 2011.
Centricity Patient Online 12
GE Healthcare is demonstrating Centricity Patient Online 12, a new release of the company’s established Patient Portal technology, at HIMSS11. Centricity Patient Online creates a single channel of communications that extends the provider workflow to the patient’s home to help reduce costs, enhance quality, and increase access to care. Centricity Patient Online 12 also helps providers meet Meaningful Use Stage 1 required and menu-pick rulings with many new capabilities. These include the ability to give patients an electronic copy of their health information upon request, to provide timely electronic access to the patient’s health information (including lab results, problem list, medication lists and medication allergies) within four business days of the information being available to the provider, to provide clinical summaries for patients for each office visit and to offer patient-specific educational resources. Centricity Patient Online 12 is generally available today.
Additional GE Healthcare Solutions Certified for Meaningful Use
GE Healthcare also announced that two more of its solutions recently achieved Meaningful Use certification. Centricity Enterprise 6.9 is 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a complete EHR on February 17, 2011 by The Drummond Group***. Centricity Enterprise 6.6.3.2 had been previously announced as a certified Complete Eligible Hospital EHR****. Centricity EMR 9.5, which is expected to be available in early Q2, is also 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a Complete EHR on October 28, 2010 by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT ®)*****. GE Healthcare also previously announced that Centricity Advance, its web-based EMR for smaller physician practices, is 2011/2012 Meaningful Use certified as a complete EHR******.
CCHIT and The Drummond Group made these designations in their capacity as Office of the National Coordinator – Authorized Temporary Certification Bodies (ONC-ATCBs) in accordance with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
Currently-available versions of the company’s specialty solutions, Centricity Perinatal 6.9 and Centricity Perioperative Anesthesia 7.6, have also been submitted to certifying bodies and are expected to achieve modular certification in the first half of 2011. Modular certification indicates that the vendor has passed the mandatory privacy and security tests established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and supports some of the Meaningful Use objectives. To certify as a modular software vendor, GE Healthcare must meet the same mandatory privacy and security tests as full EHR vendors. Upon successful completion of the modular certification, GE Healthcare will announce the detailed components for which it is certified.

0 Document Scanning and Your EHR Implementation
Feb 7, 2011. News.In today’s small practices, there is a large move to incorporate Electronic Health Records (EHRs) into the day to day operations and workflows. This is mainly established through recent government incentive plans from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and the subsequent Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) act. This transition to information technology for tracking patient data, care outcomes, and revenue cycle activities is a natural evolution; brought about through years of study, innovation, product development and investment. What has resulted from these cases of “early adoption” is a struggle to transfer from the previous paper workflow, to the electronically maintained record networks.

0 e-MDs Client is Nation’s First Physician Recipient of Electronic Health Records Incentive Payment
Jan 7, 2011. Press Releases.Gastorf Family Clinic receives $42,500 from Medicaid.
AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — e-MDs, a leading provider of electronic health records (EHRs), announced that their client, the Gastorf Family Clinic of Durant, OK, received the first physician-paid incentive checks in the country under The Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. On January 5th, 2011, just two days after registration opened for the incentive programs, the Oklahoma Health Care Authority issued payments of $21,250 to two physicians at the Gastorf Family Clinic for their successful adoption and implementation of a certified EHR. The incentive payment is federally-funded under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The Gastorf Family Clinic worked closely with the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality (OFMQ), Oklahoma’s Health Information Technology Regional Extension Center, to apply for the incentive program and ensure the appropriate steps were taken in order to receive the Medicaid payments. OFMQ, a leader in health care quality improvement, provides health information technology consulting to Oklahoma providers adopting and implementing EHRs. The clinic was able to demonstrate its long-term success with e-MDs Solution Series™ to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) with support and counseling from OFMQ. “We are pleased to support the Gastorf Family Clinic on their EHR journey, and we are excited about this milestone event,” said Dale Bratzler, chief executive of OFMQ. “We hope providers everywhere will recognize that dedicated efforts towards meaningful use of EHRs will pay off and the Regional Extension Center program is here to help in the process.”
The Gastorf Family Clinic, a small, family-owned clinic in Oklahoma, implemented e-MDs Solution Series™ in 2005. The EHR offered their practice the necessary structure to keep the billing and business organized with the flexibility to accommodate the clinic’s specific medical needs. “Partnering with e-MDs as our EHR vendor and working with OFMQ, ensured that we could meet all of the requirements of meaningful use,” said Darrell Ledbetter, CPM, The Practice Manager of Gastorf Family Clinic. “We are very excited to have received the first payment of the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Program and pleased that both of our physicians were eligible professionals for the incentives, netting our clinic a check for $42,500.00, the first year’s installment in the program. e-MDs was certainly the software vendor and support team we needed to back us up, and we are very grateful to their staff and the staff of OFMQ for their continued support. We encourage other providers to participate in this worthwhile program.”
“We feel honored that one of our clinics has been chosen by CMS to be the first ambulatory practice in the nation to receive incentive funds for the use of a certified EHR,” stated Michael Stearns, MD, President and CEO of e-MDs, Inc. “We look forward to working with the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality and the Gastorf Family Clinic to help their providers qualify for additional incentives tied to the Meaningful Use of our certified EHR.”

0 Allscripts Sunrise Electronic Health Record Receives ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 Certification as ‘Complete EHR’
Dec 29, 2010. Press Releases.Company’s Complete Line of Acute Care, Emergency Department and Ambulatory EHR Solutions Now Certified for Meaningful Use
CHICAGO, Dec. 28, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Allscripts (Nasdaq: MDRX) announced today that Sunrise Acute Care, Version 5.5 and Sunrise Emergency Care Version 5.5 are 2011/2012 CCHIT compliant and were certified as Complete EHRs on December 21, 2010 by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®), an Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB), in accordance with the applicable eligible provider and hospital certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. The 2011/2012 criteria support the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20100901/CG58147LOGO)
Additionally, Sunrise Acute Care Modular Version 5.5, Sunrise Emergency Care Modular Version 5.5, Sunrise Ambulatory Modular Version 5.5, and Sunrise Patient Portal Version 5.5 are all CCHIT 2011/2012 compliant and were also certified as EHR Modules on December 21, 2010 by CCHIT, in accordance with the applicable eligible provider and hospital certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Allscripts elected to submit Sunrise Acute Care and Emergency Care for certification as both a Complete and Modular EHR to accommodate hospitals that prefer to keep an existing third-party analytics product. Hospitals can either use the Sunrise Clinical Analytics embedded within Sunrise Acute Care or Sunrise Emergency Care to demonstrate the quality measure reporting requirement of Meaningful Use, or choose to integrate their third-party system to with Sunrise Acute Care Modular to satisfy the requirement. That third-party reporting system, however, will be required under ARRA rules to be ARRA certified as an EHR module, otherwise the hospital will have to certify the reporting module themselves – a time-consuming and expensive process.
Three clinical components of Allscripts Sunrise 5.5 EHR were previously certified by CCHIT in July. Those components included: Sunrise Clinical Manager 2011 Suite, Version 5.5, Sunrise Ambulatory Care 2011 Suite, Version 5.5 and Sunrise Emergency Care 2011 Suite, Version 5.5.
“Certification of our Sunrise Acute Care, Emergency Department and Ambulatory Electronic Health Records is an important milestone for the company as it marks the completion of ARRA certification for our full portfolio of ambulatory and acute EHRs, a commitment we made to our clients,” said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts.
“The Federal incentives for EHR adoption represent an unparalleled opportunity for healthcare organizations to implement tools which can help improve healthcare quality and efficiency. We believe our ARRA-certified products, coupled with our experience delivering meaningful value for tens of thousands of physician practices and hospitals across the country, make Allscripts an ideal organization to partner with as we create a connected community of health.”
The ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification program tests and certifies that Complete EHRs meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria and EHR Modules meet one or more – but not all – of the criteria approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) for either eligible provider or hospital technology. Companies offering ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certified EHR modules may return to test additional criteria and certify their products as Complete EHRs later. Companies certifying products early in the ONC-ATCB certification process must quickly adapt their products to meet the evolving nature of the NIST test procedures, particularly for electronic prescribing. ONC-ATCB product certification updates will be available at http://www.cchit.org as they occur.
“CCHIT is pleased to be testing and certifying products so that companies are now able to offer these products to providers who wish to purchase and implement certified EHR technology and achieve meaningful use in time for the 2011-2012 incentives,” said Karen M. Bell, M.D., M.S.S., Chair, CCHIT.
2011/2012 certification conferred by CCHIT does not represent an endorsement of the certified EHR technology by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services nor does it guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.

About CCHIT

The Commission has been certifying electronic health record technology since 2006 and is approved by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as an Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB). About ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification
The ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification program tests and certifies that EHR technology is capable of meeting the 2011/2012 criteria approved by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). The certifications include Complete EHRs, which meet all of the 2011/2012 criteria for either eligible provider or hospital technology and EHR Modules, which meet one or more – but not all – of the criteria. ONC-ATCB certification aligns with Health Information Technology: Initial Set of Standards, Implementation Specifications, and Certification Criteria for Electronic Health Record Technology published in the Federal Register in July 2010 and strictly adheres to the test procedures published by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at the time of testing. ONC-ATCB 2011/2012 certification conferred by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®) does not represent an endorsement of the certified EHR technology by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services nor does it guarantee the receipt of incentive payments.

0 athenahealth Named an Approved EHR Solution Provider by Colorado Regional Extension Center
Dec 27, 2010. Press Releases.WATERTOWN, Mass. & DENVER–(BUSINESS WIRE)–athenahealth, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATHN), a leading provider of web-based practice management, electronic health record (EHR), and patient communication services to medical groups, today announced that the Colorado Regional Extension Center (CO-REC), has selected athenahealth’s Electronic Health Record service, athenaClinicals®, to be on its list of approved integrated clinical solutions used to help more than 2,200 participating primary care physicians throughout the State of Colorado purchase an EHR. CO-REC is an initiative of six organizations led by CORHIO, the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization. According to CO-REC, two-thirds of Colorado physicians have not yet installed or begun using EHRs in their medical practices despite the federal reimbursement program that begins January 3, 2011.
“There is a groundswell of understanding building around the distinctions of athenahealth’s cloud-based EHR service, and the endorsement by RECs across the country is further accelerating the education curve to our benefit”
athenaClinicals is 2011/2012 compliant and was certified as a Complete EHR on September 30, 2010, by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT®), an ONC-ATCB, in accordance with the applicable eligible provider certification criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). The 2011/2012 criteria support the Stage 1 Meaningful Use measures required to qualify eligible providers and hospitals for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
“There is a groundswell of understanding building around the distinctions of athenahealth’s cloud-based EHR service, and the endorsement by RECs across the country is further accelerating the education curve to our benefit,” said Jonathan Bush, Chairman and CEO of athenahealth. “A cloud-based service model like ours that delivers knowledge and services over the Internet can ensure that 100% of athenaClinicals clients stay compliant with Meaningful Use criteria, even as changes are introduced. Software, on the other hand, has to be rewritten, repurchased, and reloaded onto servers in order to keep pace with shifts in the administration of healthcare. We are pleased to be recognized as an approved EHR solution by the Colorado REC as the state helps primary care physicians qualify solutions and move the needle on low adoption rates.”
athenahealth recently extended the timeframe in which doctors can qualify for its federal stimulus bonus payment guarantee program, which assures that the company’s web-based services will help eligible doctors across the nation meet EHR certification requirements for achieving Meaningful Use and thereby qualify for reimbursement funds authorized by the HITECH Act. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services formally announced the final definition of Meaningful Use on July 13, 2010. With this deadline extension, physicians will now have until June 30, 2011, to participate in the program.
