Having electronic records available immediately versus searching paper records could make a big difference in an emergency situation, and also improves the efficiency of the physicians office in general.

I agree with the author that having test results available immediately is invaluable. Even in a non-emergent situation, having results available immediately will improve patient care.

So how are others of you on EHR's handling the issue of getting results in for tests that are ordered outside your system? Anyone doing batch scanning?

What I did not expect was the ease of using our new EHR from home. When I am on call for my call group, I can see records for patients for all my colleagues. That was a huge plus.

Has anyone had success with getting scripts to print in your office from home? So they could be waiting on Monday morning?
